Google Search Console Just Got A New Feature: You Can Now Add Your Social Media Accounts

If you use Google Search Console to keep an eye on your website, there is a new feature you might want to check out.

Google has expanded Search Console beyond websites.

You can now add certain social media accounts directly to Google Search Console and see how your social media content is performing.

What has changed?

Until recently, Google Search Console was only used to monitor your webiste.

You could see things like:

  • What people are searching for
  • Which pages are appearing in Google
  • How many people clicked on your website
  • Which keywords are bringing visitors to your site
  • Whether Google is having problems indexing your pages

Now Google has introduced what it calls Platform Properties.

Thee allow you to connect supported social media accounts to Search Console and see how your social content is appearing across Google’s search results.

Platforms currently supported are:

  • Instagram
  • TikTok
  • YouTube
  • X (formerly Twitter)

One catch: Google is rolling this out over the next few weeks.

Why this matters for your business

The new platform properties give you access to performance information such as clicks, impressions and search queries associated with your social content.

You can also see which posts are performing well and get an overview of how people are discovering your social account through Google.

That is particularly useful if you are creating content designed to answer questions your potential customers are searching for.

For example a website designer might create:

“5 signs your website needs updating”

This post might only compete for attention on Instagram but they may also have the opportunity to be discovered through Google.

How do you add your social media account?

Three steps:

  • Open Search Console and go to the property selector
  • Click “Add property” and choose Instagram, TikTok, X or YouTube
  • Follow the prompts to connect your account

Once connected, your social account appears as it’s own property in Search Console.

What if you don’t see the option yet?

Don’t panic.

Google has been rolling this feature out gradually.

If you don’t see Instagram, TikTok, X or Youtube when you click Add Property, it doesn’t necessarily mean you have done anything wrong.

It may simply not be available on your account yet.

If you have a business website and you are already creating social media content, it is worth checking your Google Search Console and seeing if the new Platform Properties option is available to you.
